The Learning Blog: Catering to New Learners

In their book, Keeping the Millennials, Dr. Joanne Sujansky and Dr. Jan Ferri-Reed layout the significant differences between Baby Boomers and the generation they gave birth to: Generation Y, or the New Milennials. They cited research from a 2005 Kaiser Foundation study indicating that millenials spend 6.5 hours a day communicating through some kind of medium and manage to clock 8.3 hours a day worth of media exposure. It seems safe to assume those metrics are higher now. The report also inidcated that 26% of the time spent interacting with media, they are using more than one media at a time.

"Given their natural affinity for technology, millenials at work expect to have the latest technology at their fingertips. Anything less simply won't do."

Do you agree that the way we leverage technology and communities to train workforces is going to change dramatically over the next seven years, as 70 million baby boomers roll into some form of retirement? What changes are you seeing within your organization now?

Yes! I don't think the ways of the past will serve the needs of our new learners...

Question

John - how did you find this book?  Have not seen the book but know both of the authors as consultants from about 20 years ago!
